There are two things that make me feel better when I'm feeling stressed, overwhelmed or upset. The first is exercise. I always feel a little better after I break a sweat. The other remedy is GIVING. It never fails. I always feel better after I lend a helping hand to someone less fortunate. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way.
Last night I got to be a part of a really cool activity. I was invited by the Washington Capitals to join them and the Salvation Army's GRATE PATROL. A Salvation Army van drives around to several intersections EVERY NIGHT delivering
food and supplies to DC's homeless population. Yes...even on holidays and when the weather sucks. THEY ALWAYS SHOW UP. Up until last night, I didn't know the GRATE PATROL existed.I was joined by Caps player Nicklas Backstrom
and Lisa Hillary from Comcast Sportsnet. We joined the caravan last night and had the pleasure of serving chicken noodle soup, sandwiches, hot chocolate and cookies. We also gave out sweat shirts. It was very touching to see the Salvation Army workers know many of the homeless men and women by NAME. I took a bunch of photos and wanted to share some with you.
